TIPS

The motherboard is the main internal foundation for a computer and it is very important to get the right otherboard for you. The motherboard is what everything connects to and if you want your PC to be future proof the motherboard is the main component for that.

CPU Platform

When you are buying a motherboard you want to make sure that the CPU socket is compatible with your CPU. The place you buy your motherboard for should provide information on what CPUs the motherboard is compatible with. There are amny types of CPU socket and you always need to check which is compatible and you may still get this wrong so do be sure to check that the place you are buying your PC parts from has a return policy and check what tat return policy says.

Size

The main types of motherboard that you will be using include Mini ITX, Mirco ATX and ATX. Here is a table of information about these motherboard sizes:

Micro ATX Mini ITX ATX
Size=9.0" x 7.5" Size=9.6" x 9.6" Size=12" x 9.6"
Dim Slots=4 Maximum Dim Slots=2 Maximum Dim Slots=8 Maximum
GPUs=3 Maximum GPUs=1 Maximum GPUs=4 Maximum

Storage

You should try to make sure that you motherboard had the port(s) availiable for NVME SSDs because these are very usefull to have your OS installed on so your PC will load up quickly. Yoyu also wnt to make sure that your motherboard has enough SATA ports for all of the storage you want.

Ports

Make sure that there is a good amount of modern USB ports on your motherboard (aim for USB 3.0) try to make sure that your motherboard also has a USB C port and a HDMI port.

Overall, I reccomend the MSI B450 Tomahawk Max because it has a great ATX motherboard with DDR4 RAM support, NVME storage support, an HDMI port, USB C and it has MSI Mystic RGB lighting and is the best motherboard for its price.
